Bertie Felstead And The Christmas Of 1915

Bertie Felstead passed away in July of 2001 at the age of 107, Royal Welch Fusiliers, British Expeditionary Force. He was the last known survivor of the Christmas Truces of 1915, the last Christmas truce of the Great War (WWI). I was quite moved when I read Andrew Stuttaford's piece on his passing four and a half years back; I still find it so. It's worth the read, if only to remember that sometimes, despite the most brutally malevolent circumstances, some shred of peace can be achieved, albeit temporarily.

Read it here. Enjoy.

Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah.
